02 — Mitigate
Reduce radon. Act at its source.
Robert carries out radon mitigation work himself. From the survey to confirmation of the results, you have the same support throughout: work on site, concentration monitoring before and after the intervention, a mitigation report and recognised measurements using passive detectors.
Describe my situation
Start with the survey and the building
We review the available measurements, how rooms are used and accessible construction details. The technical survey helps identify likely entry points and understand how radon moves through the building.
A basement, slab, crawl space or existing ventilation system helps guide the investigations. You do not need to choose a technical solution before our first discussion.
Choose a suitable solution
Depending on the circumstances, options may include depressurisation beneath the building, changes to ventilation or treatment of air entry routes. The solution is chosen according to the survey findings and the constraints of your building.
Installation options, air discharge and maintenance access are considered as part of the assessment. The quotation specifies the selected work and any involvement of other trades.
Carry out the work and measure its effect
Robert carries out the mitigation work, ensuring that decisions made on site reflect the survey findings.
Radon concentrations are monitored before and after the work. Comparing the measurements shows the effect of the intervention and allows system settings to be adjusted where needed. Results are interpreted in the context of the measurement conditions and how the rooms are used.
Document the results in a report
A mitigation report is prepared after the work. It describes the work carried out and the results of radon concentration monitoring.
- Description of the work and the installed system.
- Graphs and results from before and after the work.
- Measurement conditions and interpretation of the observed effect.
- Operating instructions, settings and points to monitor.
Confirm the results using passive detectors
After the work, passive detectors are installed to confirm the results through a recognised long-term measurement. The start and schedule of this campaign are adapted to the applicable protocol and measurement period.
This confirmation extends the monitoring carried out before and after the work. The recognised measurement results are sent to you at the end of the campaign.
Maintain effectiveness over time
A system must remain accessible for checks and maintenance. Operating conditions, settings and points to monitor are explained to you and recorded in the mitigation report.
Changes to ventilation, room use or the building may warrant a fresh assessment.
Your questions
How is the effect of the work checked?
We monitor radon concentrations before and after the work to observe its effect and adjust the system if needed. The mitigation report presents these results. A passive detector campaign is then arranged to confirm them through a recognised measurement.
Are checks included in the mitigation service?
Yes. Concentration monitoring, the mitigation report and arranging confirmation using passive detectors are part of the same service. The scope and schedule are set out in the quotation.
Can a solution be chosen from a Bq/m³ result alone?
The result is a starting point. Entry routes, occupied rooms and construction constraints also need to be examined.
Can Robert carry out work after measurements by someone else?
You can send the existing report. It helps prepare the discussion and identify any checks needed before work begins.

What about yourbuilding?
A measurement, a result, a question. Let’s start there.
